Hello Friends!
My romance novel, Home’s Harbor, is currently out on submission to editors! Whoohoo! Exciting! But my agent and I had a chat yesterday, and here’s the thing—I have written two VERY different novels, one Romance, one Upmarket Women’s Fiction (with a thriller edge). So what is my writer-ly identity?
Well, Emily Vajda (me, that’s me), is a bit edgy. I’m fascinated by relationships, understanding why we are with the people we choose to be with, and how that changes who we are (or not). I love to do deep dives into a character’s psyche. Writing in First Person. Really cracking that character’s secret heart and exposing it in all of its messy glory. (I was an actress; that never leaves you.)
So—Emily Vajda writes Upmarket Women’s Fiction with a psychological, thriller edge.
While Emily Valentine…
Well, Emily Valentine writes Romance.
Emily Valentine is the girl who grew up reading Nora Roberts, devouring romance after romance, while working at The Bookworm, a local used bookstore. And I like to think that Emily Valentine novels are like a literary Nora Roberts—I take that feel good small town, that happily every after, and put a literary twist on it with a focus on atmosphere, voice, and style.
(I have yet to take my husband’s last name, so I figured I should take his first—ha!)
I hope readers will love both.
And I’ve got a Children’s Fantasy Chapter Book in the works, so I’ll need a second pen name. So stay tuned for that! If you’ve got any suggestions—share them! Thinking a last name that starts with “V”, but is centered around Fantasy.
That’s it. Thanks for reading. I hope you will love Emily Vajda; I hope you will love Emily Valentine; each author is a facet of me.
