Day Three of the PNWA Writers Conference—Here are my Highlights!
- PITCH!
- Writers who aren’t comfortable pitching your book—just go ahead and try! Conferences are a GREAT way to get your book out there, right in front of agents & editors. And it’s excellent practice! Even if you don’t get request for a full manuscript, or that book deal we all hope for, if anything, you have become more comfortable talking about your book
- Me? I’m out on submission and I have a wonderful literary agent (shout-out to Elizabeth Kracht with Kimberley Cameron & Associates!), so I didn’t need to pitch to agents. There were two editors I was able to pitch to: Matt Rusin from Tor, and Jennifer McCord with Epicenter-Coffeetown-Camel Press.
- Now, Matt Rusin doesn’t acquire my genre, but you know what? I pitched to him anyway. If anything, I practiced and made a possible connection in the industry. And…I asked HIM questions. So I learned more about the world of publishing.
- But Jennifer McCord? Well, it turns out she loves Kimberley Cameron & Associates, and she asked to see my book. Whoop! (happy dance!)
- MIRA LANDRY with Corvisiero Literary Agency
- If you are at a conference and she is offering a seminar—TAKE IT! What a brilliant woman. I felt like I was in grad school again. Her seminars on the differences between Literary, Upmarket, and Commercial Fiction were so And her seminar on How to Write a Synopsis?—worth it. She broke the process down into a manageable beast I can finally get my hands around.
- Also—having a bomb-ass synopsis is important. So…write it.
So much more, but that’s it for now!
Happy Writing!
Happy Reading!
